Asda asks customers about packaging

Asda has announced that it will refer directly to its Customers as part of new plans to earn long-term loyalty from shoppers by asking them directly about packaging designs.

Andy Bond, Asda Group Chief Executive, has arranged plans to "increase transparency in the supermarket's operations" and build trust between the supermarket and its customers.  This will include a scheme called 'Chosen By You', whereby Customers will be consulted in the daily operations of the Company.

Over 18.000 Asda shoppers are currently on the panel which was launched in January of this year.  Consumers will be given the chance to test products pre-store inclusion and to give feedback on, amongst others things, packaging.  Asda said that "They (the Customers) will have a big influence on purchasing decisions by being involved at the start rather than at the end".

Also included are 'Your Asda', where Customers will be given the chance to witness how the supermarket's supply chain works, and, 'Bright Ideas', where the store will offer cash incentives to Customers who think of money-saving ideas.

In the 'Your Asda' scheme, a new 'transparent' store will open in Gorseinon, South Wales.  Features will include: glass walls and video screens around the store allowing customers to see what is happening in areas that are usually out of view.

The aim to "actively involve" customers in every aspect of Asda, and, give the chance to help make decisions were key said Mr Bond, adding, "Events over the past year mean that faith in big businesses is lower than it's ever been - because people have stopped trusting what's going on behind closed doors. So, from today, there is no 'behind the scenes' at Asda."
