AWS Eco Plastics in flames again

Within weeks of a fire at AWS Eco Plastics Hemswell factory, another fire has started which is believed to have been started by ignition of a smouldering silo.

After the initial fire on 25 August 2009, Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue (LFR) had agreed with the Environment Agency and Environmental Health that small pockets of fire best be left to burn out.

Nick Davis of LFR explained that this would " minimise any environmental damage caused by firefighting polluting local water courses", adding that "Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue are carefully monitoring the site and taking the appropriate action when there is any flare up in the controlled area".

The hot washing and extrusion lines at AWS Eco Plastics had survived the fire, and, even  though the washing facility and bottle sorting plant were destroyed the Company had begun extruding food-grade PET once more.
