Packaging show organiser Easyfairs has hired a new managing director following the departure last week of the company’s founder in the UK, Peter Heath.

Matthew Benyon has taken on the top role at the south-west London company after joining from a short stint as group exhibitions director at Expomedia Group, an events company which went into administration in January this year.

Prior to that, he was managing director of events firm Montgomery Internationals London office, a role he held for six years until mid-2008.

Benyon said that he had been set a tough but exciting mandate to accelerate the growth of the Easyfairs low-cost show formula in the UK and would be looking for acquisitions in the B2B show sector.

The UK exhibitions industry is highly entrepreneurial. We are looking for new partnerships, joint ventures and direct investments to complement our own launches, he said.

Easyfairs UKI chairman Hugh Keeble said that Benyon would bring expertise in brand development as well as experience in running events both in the UK and overseas.

Heath, who set up Easyfairs in the UK five years ago and has been instrumental in the establishment of the companys annual packaging fair, will continue to work on projects with Keeble, the company said.

Keeble added: Peter has made a very valuable contribution to Easyfairs over the past five years and I look forward to our continued partnership.
