Ginsters increase packing line by 50%

Ginsters, the Cornish pasty manufacturer, has bought a third Schubert packing line for the Callington bakery and plans to install it at the end of the month.

Since 2007, the firm has operated two machines which pack pasties and savoury snacks at its facility.  The new line will handle up to 400 products a minute.

Any misshaped or broken goods are rejected before they are packed via a special vision system.

Operations Director, Ray Hanly said: "Automation is key to removing non value-added activities from the business and the quality of Schubert equipment is outstanding."

The line has two robots, one loads empty display trays onto a conveyor, while product is fed into the process, whilst another, equipped with a vacuum-gripper tool, picks up the item and places them in the display.  They are then moved to the next stage of the packaging process.

German firm Schubert has over 600 staff and produces around 120 packaging machines a year. Its UK operation is in Coventry.
