Price increases from Borealis

An increase in all polyethylene and polypropylene prices is to be implemented by Borealis as from this week.  They will become the third plastics manufacturer to raise prices since the beginning of the year.

In a short statement last week, the Austrian firm said that it is would increase all PP and PE prices by EUR 100 per tonne (£87) from today's date (Monday 25 January).

Executive Vice President for polyolefins, Lorenzo Delorenzi, said: "We have decided on this price strategy to restore our margins and stay in line with our innovation strategy."

BASF has already announced its decision to increase the price of its Styrolux polymers in Europe by EUR 150 per tonne due to rising raw material, energy and transport costs.

Earlier this month, Ineos Nova said it was increasing polystyrene prices by EUR 185 per tonne to cover feedstock increases, higher than what had been announced in December.
