Quantum Print and Packaging has created the retail-ready packaging for GlaxoSmithKline’s (GSK) first foray into the sports and protein bar markets.
Walsall-based Quantum was asked to create packaging that was functional, attractive, cost-effective and recyclable or biodegradable for the new Lucozade Sport Recovery and Protein bars.
The resulting pack was printed in seven and eight colours, for the recovery and protein bars respectively, on e-flute laminated substrate.
Quantum sales manager Giles Foden told Packaging News that the large number of colours and metallics used in the print design posed them the biggest challenge.
"From a print point of view it’s a big print job," said Foden. "The biggest challenge was the number of colours and getting this registered."
Lucozade has started the roll-out of the new strawberry flapjack recovery bar and protein bars in caramel and chocolate flavours.
The collaboration was the first time Quantum had worked with GSK.
