Stora Enso launches new fibre-based tray

Following success by Finnish suppliers, Stora Enso is to attempt to enter the European consumer goods market with the DeLight fibre-based tray.

In its biggest product launch of 2009, Finland company Atria hope to attract  the 25-45 age group of consumers to its Atria Fresh range of microwavable ready meals.

The fibre-based tray has a strengthened rim to help achieve sealing of modified atmosphere packs. It can also be frozen and is recyclable.

Tanja Virtanene-Leppä, Atria Packaging Development Manager, said "DeLight stood out in our consumer tests as the most attractive package for fresh ready meals for our target group," adding that the tray was a novel, and that environmentally friendly technology responded to the needs of the target audience.

Head of DeLight Solution at Stora Enso, Jalliina Järvinen, said "The new product enables us to introduce new shapes and user-friendly functions into fibre-based packaging", claiming that the pack was "designed to respond to the trends of self-expression in packaging design and the need for environmentally friendly products".

The DeLight is suitable for several applications including food, cosmetics, home decoration and leisure products say Stora Enso.
