US investigators probe claim of mouse in Diet Pepsi can

Investigators in the US are examining claims of a mouse being found inside a can of Diet Pepsi.

The Food and Drug Administration said it is looking into the claim, which has been made by a couple from Florida.

Pepsi, however, has said that it is virtually impossible for any foreign object - living or otherwise - to find its way into drinks cans during production.

A statement from Pepsi Bottling Group spokesperson Jeff Dahncke said that there was no evidence to suggest that any foreign object could have entered the can in question on its production lines, but that the safety of customers was paramount.

He said: "These types of claims have occasionally been made over the years. There has never been a single instance where lab testing has traced the claim to a problem during production.

"In this case, we know exactly when and where the package in question was produced. We’ve reviewed our production logs and found absolutely no evidence to suggest that any foreign object or substance entered the package during the manufacturing process."
